It is reportedly revealed that Sony’s next wireless noise-canceling headphones, the WH-1000XM4s, could have up to 40 hours of battery for its users.
Details about the WH-1000XM4s were first leaked as early as January 2020, when it passed the SIRIM certification. Then, Twitter user Everton Favretto shared details about the product from Anatel (which is basically Brazil’s FCC), which also included a draft-like user manual.
It’s hard to make out what is written on the draft manual as it’s not in English, but some translated details regarding what the product could offer include Bluetooth 5.0 (up from Bluetooth 4.2), 2W of power consumption (down from 8W), 40 hours of battery life while wired or otherwise with maximum noise-canceling, and a new feature called “speak to chat”, which allow for voice activation to voice assistants (Siri, Google Assistant, etc).
The previous models, the WH-1000XM2s and WH-1000XM3s, were able to hold up about 30 hours of playback with maximum noise-canceling, though it could last a little longer if it was off and had a wired connection.
With that said, it’s perfectly possible that the WH-1000XM4s could also hold up longer than what is stated on paper, depending on how it’s used. In fact, it really could hold out much longer than its predecessors’ thanks to Bluetooth 5.0 and the very low power consumption rate.
But then again, this information may end up being false when it gets officially announced, though that doesn’t seem very likely.
While there is no indication of how much it would cost, it could cost the same as its predecessors’ when they first released, at $349.99 (RM1,599.00). That could really draw in huge sales, as a wireless noise-canceling headphone with such improved features at that price point is quite attractive.
