After the explosive episode last year with Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 battery faults, it has taken the company quite some time recalling all the devices. While reportedly almost 97% of units sold in South Korea has been retrieved, the company decided it’s long enough and will be permanently shutting the discontinued phone off.
According to Sam Mobile, Samsung has confirmed that they will be rolling out a software update later this month which will render the battery useless. Basically the software will disable battery charging – so you can’t use the phone unless permanently plugged to a socket.
A similar measure has been released in the United States, while other options in other countries included working with local mobile carriers to shut off mobile network access for Galaxy Note 7 devices. Looks like Samsung is putting the final nail in the Note 7 coffin, ready for the S8 launch on Wednesday.
