On 1 November 2015, Google will be holding a free online conference called ‘Education on Air’ exclusively on Google Hangouts that will focus on education and learning technology.

This is the first time a virtual event like this has been held to discuss the ways Malaysian educators can adopt Education Technology to attain specific national educational objectives. It will also help teachers and students understand the subject better by sharing some of the latest techniques from Education Technology.

Education on Air will run from 9am to 4pm with over 50 speakers and panelists taking part. The morning keynotes will be delivered by Malaysian Deputy Minister of Education, YBP Kamalanathan, Google’s Malaysia’s Managing Director, Sajith Sivanandan and other special guests. Afterwards, several parallel Hangout-on-Air sessions have been lined up for participants.

It is high time that Malaysia jump on board and this conference will increase awareness on how Education Technology has impacted teaching and learning in schools and consequently, make local teachers become better educators.

As Rahayu Ramli, Head of Google for Education, Malaysia says, “Many of the sessions are about fellow teachers sharing their real life classroom examples using freely available tools; we think these ‘a-ha moments’ can help other educators innovate because teachers always know their students best.”

Among the tools used in classroom by the guest speakers are Google Apps for Education and Frog Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

There are also practical lessons like collaboration and community, empowering students, professional development and feedback and assessment. These are the topics that teachers might consider implementing.

Google keeps the conference interactive by opening up questioning sessions, which will be answered by the speakers themselves or by the Google for Education team, either live or after the event.

You can listen to these sessions in Malay, Chinese, Tamil and English. To get the full schedule, go to g.co/EduonAir. Registered participants also will be sent playback links of the recorded event so that they can study the materials.

All participants are eligible to receive a ‘certificate of participation’ via a unique code even for those who missed the live conference as long as they have registered beforehand.
