BlackBerry Files Lawsuit Against Facebook

Having attempted to work collaboratively with Facebook heading nowhere, BlackBerry instead has gone the legal route in filing a lawsuit against the largest social network site on the internet for infringing on the use its messaging solution.

In a report first appearing on Reuters, the lawsuit also includes Whatsapp and Instagram of whom all are accused of using its messaging patents without permission. BlackBerry is taking to task over Facebook using its popular BlackBerry Messenger service (BBM) patents which was regarded as the standard bearer of mobile messaging replacing SMS at that time. It alleges the Silicon Valley tech company of creating mobile messaging applications that co-opt BlackBerry’s innovation using a number of the innovative security, user interface and functionality enhancing features that made BlackBerry products such a critical and commercial success in the first place.

Facebook has responded to the claim as a sad reflection of the state of BlackBerry’s messaging business and that the company has abandoned its efforts to innovate instead resorting to tax the others for their innovation. It vows to fight.
