The Audi A8 is making its world debut, being in the fourth generation of its flagship model. It features a new design language, an innovative touchscreen operating concept and a systematically electrified drive. Apart from that, the Audi A8 is the first production automobile in the world that was developed for highly automated driving.
Starting next year, the company plans to gradually adopt piloted driving functions into production, which includes parking pilot, garage pilot and traffic jam pilot. For the Audi AI traffic jam pilot, it takes charge of driving in slow-moving traffic at up to 60 km/h on freeways and highways, using an AI system.
With this, the driver no longer needs to monitor the car and is able to completely take their hands off the steering wheel. As soon as the system reaches its limits, it will then call on the driver to take back control of driving.
Another new technology is the Audi AI suspension that is capable of raising or lowering each wheel separately with electric actuators, depending on the driver’s comfort and driving situation. The flexibility imparts the driving characteristics with huge latitude, ranging from the smooth ride of a classic luxury sedan to the dynamism of a sports car.
In short, the Audi A8 demonstrates the capabilities of AI in automotive that Audi is turning into reality.
