isitcanceledyet.com: Your Definitive Guide To What’s Cancelled Because Of The Coronavirus

In what seems to be a ray of light in an otherwise bleak existence at the moment, isitcanceledyet.com has to be one of my favourite sites in recent times. It essentially doesn’t really do anything besides confirm on whether certain events are canceled because of the coronavirus outbreak. It’s a relatively simple concept, but it’s execution is king.

The site features a whole host of events that we’ve reported recently such as Google’s I/O, the NBA, E3, MWC 2020, and more. They also do link relevant articles that talk about the events and cancellations, so it does have some merit. Maybe as a way for a quick overview of what all events are getting cancelled? I could see the potential. Overall though, the site might be seen in a negative way as people might think they’re making light of the situation, but I disagree.

And they finish it off with the pièce de résistance:

With a link of this video right after:

So yes, it is kind of a moral gray area on whether it’s okay to joke about these events being canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic we’re facing. But they do say this at the very end of the site:

“This website tracks some of the events that have been canceled due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), along with some other things that have been incidentally canceled. it is not meant to be a comprehensive or efficient resource. indeed, in dark times, dark humor is a salve for strained souls.

“it may be sad that some of the events listed here have been canceled, but know that it is often a difficult decision made with good intentions, and that canceling public events during an outbreak can help save lives

While it can be construed to be insensitive, I feel it were more so the opposite. They’re informing the public on what events are canceled, they’re linking articles with possible news that people wouldn’t have seen before, and even linking sites that can help the fight against the outbreak. While the humour here indeed is dark, I’d say there’s no other way to put it really. If we don’t find a little humour in our meager existence, is there really a point to anything?

Or maybe I’m just a little too pessimistic. Who knows.
