After a bunch of companies cancelling their events and conferences for Mobile World Congress 2020 amid fears of the Coronavirus outbreak, now MWC 2020 itself is cancelled. The event was scheduled for February 24th to February 27th in Barcelona, Spain, but the organizers announced today that they have decided to cancel the entire event. This is due to the ‘global concern regarding the coronavirus outbreak, travel concern and other circumstances, make it impossible for the GSMA to hold the event’.

Well to be fair, quite a number of companies have already cancelled their MWC or pre-MWC events in Barcelona in the past few weeks, so it wasn’t that surprising. Though, it is a first in the history of the mobile world’s biggest annual event.

But there still were companies who had confirmed their attendance for the event, such as Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo and Motorola. While they were set to have their Pre-MWC events on February 22nd and 23rd, we’re not sure if those also will be cancelled alongside the main stage events. Considering they’re not during MWC or on the premises, they could still happen.

Who knows what’s going to happen at this point, but the GSMA are looking forward for MWC Barcelona 2021.
