Uber Loses its Operation License in London

Just when things couldn’t have gotten any worse, Uber has now lost its license to operate in London. Uber will cease to operate in one of the world’s largest cities, which will affect more than 40,000 drivers.

As Uber’s conduct poses the risk of public safety, the Regulator Transport for London (TfL) will not renew Uber’s license come 30 September 2017. However, Uber will have 21 days to lodge an appeal and can continue to operate until the appeal process finishes.

This comes after the amount of attacks Uber has faced against London’s black cab drivers and the risk Uber imposes onto its riders. “Transport for London and the Mayor have caved in to a small number of people who want to restrict consumer choice,” said Tom Elvidge, Uber’s general manager in London. “We intend to immediately challenge this in the courts.”
