All you Witcher fans out there rejoice! We now have word on when exactly…. CD Projekt Red will be starting on the development of the next game in the Witcher franchise. Yes, that’s right, there hasn’t been any development yet as of now, but isn’t all too surprising considering Cyberpunk 2077 is their next major game after the Witcher series.

CD Projekt Red president, Adam Kiciński revealed that the new Witcher game’s full production will start developing as soon as Cyberpunk 2077 launches. Eurogamer Poland reports this after a meeting with journalists, and that they have a “clear concept” with what they want to do with the next game in the Witcher saga. He goes on to explain that “immediately after the completion of work on Cyberpunk 2077, work on the next title will start”.

The new game will be set in the Witcher universe, but reportedly won’t be a direct sequel to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which released back in 2015. It also won’t be called ‘The Witcher 4’, which hints that the next game will probably be based in the Witcher universe, with a focus on another character. No more Geralt I guess?

Well at least we know that now. Cyberpunk 2077 was delayed until September from their original April release window, so they should be working on it around that time. In the meeting, Kiciński also mentions that every game that CD Projekt has planned at the moment will be in the Cyberpunk and Witcher universe. To prep the game, they’ve got their smallest team working on it while two larger teams will be working on network and additions to Cyberpunk 2077.

All this being said, we probably won’t be seeing the game for years to come. One thing is for sure though, the game will most definitely be on next-gen consoles Sony’s PS5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X.
