The Windows 10 Spring Update is finally upon us! It gives us new features such as Timeline and Fluent Design as well as security and accessibility improvements. I know many don’t like the random automatic Windows 10 updates, so here’s how to do it yourself.
There are a few ways you can update to the latest Windows 10 right now. One such way is to check for updates in the Windows Update settings menu. If it is already available, congratulations, you don’t need this guide. Saying that, Microsoft typically slowly puts out the automatic update out to the millions of Windows 10 computers; let’s just say there’s a good chance you don’t actually have it yet. This is where this guide comes in to help you manually update.
You’re gonna need to find the dedicated Windows 10 page on the Microsoft website. Once you’re there, you should see a large button saying ‘Update now’, referring to the Spring update. You click it, download a small upgrade tool, and run the exe file. When you do that, you’ll be greeted with this screen:
That’s the Windows 10 Update Assistant. You see that little ‘Update Now’ button down right? Just click it and done, your PC will begin updating to the Windows 10 Spring Update.
In case you find an issue, there’s a Reddit thread dedicated to discussing the Spring Update; you can click here to go to it and chances are someone’s found a similar issue to yours. Alternatively, Microsoft will be automatically launching the update to you soon, so you can just wait for that. It usually is better you wait for it if you’re not too sure what you’re doing when manually updating.
