Twitter Privacy Policy Revision Increases Transparency

With the spillover from Facebook’s data abuse scandal still fresh, it can be easy to forget the other websites that collect our data. Twitter announces changes to how users can interact with the company and its data collection. Additionally, a new Twitter privacy policy uses simpler language and better transparency.

twitter privacy policy is seeing a revision

The changes comes in light of the European Union’s (EU) push of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) act. The legislation gives users more say on how Twitter users their data, and though formed by EU, applies worldwide. Companies such Facebook and Twitter are adopting these policies next month.

The changes by Twitter come in three parts. The first is plain language. Basically, content on their Privacy Policy page is clearer, with an intention to be understood by laymen. Next, useful hyperlinks lead to relevant privacy settings, as well as information on data collection throughout the page. Lastly, Twitter provides links for customers to provide feedback and to start a conversation with the company.

Damien Kieran, Data Protection Officer at Twitter, says, “We believe you should know the types of data you share with us and how we use it. Most importantly, you should have meaningful control over both. ”

Twitter’s policy changes go into effect on 25th May, the same day the GDPR act becomes active. The company stresses that users worldwide will have control in limiting what Twitter collects.
