Tokyo Metropolitan Government Use VR Movie to Promote for Tourism

Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) is using VR to promote tourism around the region. With Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympic Games within the horizon, Japan is promoting tourism attractions linking Tokyo to Tohoku, Chugoku and Shikoku regions with the help of websites and VR movies.

TMG recently worked with foreign media and travel bloggers to share and report on their experience with the promoted sightseeing routes. TMG also rolled out a a 360-degree VR movie to experience the routes in an immersive way on YouTube or Youku.

One of the recommended routes available on the VR tour includes historical routes of Yamaguchi Prefecture’s Iwakuni and Hagi.

The themes published at the moment are Onsen (hot springs), fruit, autumn foliage, airborne imagery and the digest version for an autumn series; local foods, city illumination, winter ports, shopping and the digest version for a winter series.
