Twitter is letting you write more with 140 character limit. Twitter announced that when reply to a user or a group, the @usernames won’t count towards the 140 character limit of tweets.

According to a blog post written by Product Manager Sasank Reddy, Twitter made some changes to the way Tweets work. With this update, who you are replying to will appear above the Tweet text rather than within the text itself, so you have more characters to have conversations. There will be a “Replying to…” section to easily see and control who’s part of your conversation. This means it’s easier to see the content of the tweet instead of a lot of @usernames.

Reddy wrote that the updates are made based on user feedback as well as  research and experimentation. Twitter saw more engagement between users with the new format. This update is rolling out now on twitter.com as well as on Twitter for iOS and Android. Changes will be reflected in the latest app update.
