TI7 Main Event – Day 2 Recap

The second day of the main event saw two juggernauts in the Dota 2 scene in the form of Team Secret and Evil Geniuses (EG) as they were eliminated by Team Liquid and Team Empire, respectively in the Lower Bracket. The TI5 champions were unable to take control of both games as Team Empire were on a completely different level in terms of drafts, performance, positioning and decision-making.

Meanwhile, the Team Secret vs Team Liquid match-up went to all three games where Secret took the first game convincingly. However, that was not enough to deter Liquid, who quickly bounced back and win the next two games. The third game in particular was an evenly fought contest with Liquid pulling out a massive heal/push strat while Secret went for a high burst damage/push strat. In the end, Liquid’s burst of heal kept their heroes alive long enough to capture the barracks and forced mistakes out of Secret, which force the latter to tap out.

In the earlier part of the day (or night, depending on where you’re watching), favourite underdogs TNC Pro Team went up against LGD.ForeverYoung (LFY) in the first set of Upper Bracket matches. While LFY took the series 2-0, one cannot count out TNC as they will be facing OG in a rematch of last year’s TI where they took out the Major champions 2-0 to knock them out. Will be seeing a repeat or will OG learn their lesson and not underestimate the dark horse that is TNC?

The next Upper Bracket match was between Virtus Pro (VP) and LGD Gaming, which VP took both games convincingly. Ending both games before the 30-minute mark, VP made light work of LGD, sending down to the Lower Bracket where Digital Chaos awaits.

Day 2 also saw the introduction of Valve’s latest game, Artifact, which is a Dota 2 card game. Although the video tells very little in terms of how the game is going to be, let’s hope Valve will talk more about Artifact in the weeks to come!
