Tencent, the arguably the largest gaming company in the world is finally releasing their own take on the Auto Battler genre. The game is already available for Android and iOS. It however, isn’t without it’s faults. Review scores on Google Play have it at a 4.3 stars rating with a total of 118. The personal anecdotes however, tell a different tale. People complain about the game disconnecting, not being able to find matches, and other issues at the moment. Which isn’t a surprise, as the game literally just came out.
It’s stand out feature though, is that it has 10 minute matches. The problem with the Auto Battler genre is that most games take around 30 minutes, if you make it to the end, that is. Tencent therefore, is ahead of the others with that feature. Tencent understands mobile games and gaming, and that’s probably because of their massive success with other titles.
Auto Chess by Drodo Studios is the original, which was originally a mod on Dota 2, but they later broke ties with Valve to produce their own version. Auto Chess is already available on Android and iOS. With that, Valve knew they had to come up with something, and that’s what eventually came to be known as Dota Underlords, which is now available for Android, iOS, and PC. Though the game is currently under beta, it’s graphics and gameplay is good enough.
So safe to say, the Auto Battler genre is going to take off fast now. More and more clones are popping up, and with Tencent’s production of Chess Rush, it’s practically cemented itself in the mobile market.
