Spotify Officially Launches Lyrics in Malaysia; Does Anyone Really Stay On The Spotify App Though?

Starting today, Spotify is rolling out Lyrics to all Free and Premium users in Malaysia, which gives listeners in-app access to millions of song lyrics in the language in which they are sung.

Spotify has a global partnership with Musixmatch, the world’s largest catalogue of song lyrics and translations, to license these lyrics. Users can access the feature by tapping the “Lyrics” tab at the bottom of their “Now Playing” screen within the app.

“Lyrics has been one of the most requested features by Spotify users and we’re excited to make song lyrics available to listeners in Southeast Asia, including Malaysia. Listeners can now get to know their favourite tracks – and the lyrics behind them – even better. It’s another way Spotify is connecting fans and artists through the music they love,”

Boon Ken Wong, Asia Team Lead, Editorial, Spotify.

Get into the groove with Spotify’s new Lyrics feature and belt out your favourite songs at home with these surefire hits featured on Sing Along K-Pop, Girl Power Karaoke and Karaoke Duets.

For those looking for a more local flavour, check out Jom Karaoke! and sing-along to popular song choices on Karaoke-themed playlists created by Malaysian users which include: “I Want It That Way” by Backstreet Boys, “Belaian Jiwa” by Innuendo, “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz, “Kenangan Terindah” by SAMSONS and “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing – From “Armageddon” Soundtrack” by Aerosmith.

That being said though, does anyone really stay on the Spotify app after choosing or queueing your songs? The whole beauty of Spotify is that you can do other things while the song plays in the background, no? Of course, it’s a nice touch to not have to google song lyrics but still, it’s 2020 and you’d expect Spotify to already have a feature like this in place by now.
