Najib Tun Razak’s 1MDB Trial Put On Hold Yet Again; Is His Plan Is To Delay Proceedings Until BN Rises Again?

Will Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak ever be charged for corruption and money laundering? You can’t help but to ask yourself this question. It’s been announced that the former prime minister’s trial will not carry on as scheduled tomorrow because Najib’s got to try and get voters to vote for BN in the Chini by-election this Saturday.

Yup, that’s right. Najib Tun Razak who let’s be real here, is probably corrupt is still out and about running his full responsibilities as an MP for Barisan Nasional. Najib’s lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, who has his own trial for money laundering and tax evasion ongoing, informed the High Court in KL that Najib’s attendance in crucial to increase voter turnout.

“As for tomorrow, my client would have to be in Pekan so he can campaign for the Chini by-election,” Shafee told the court when applying for the trial not to go on tomorrow.

“I have been informed that the Chini by-election is especially important because of the nature of the candidates, voters might take it easy and not turn out. So it’s critical for my client to be in these places to whip up support that they come out, it doesn’t matter who they vote,” he added.

Why is a man under investigation allowed to even continue to be an MP? Given that Najib is the Pekan MP, and Chini falls under Pekan, of course he’s not going to be able to make it in court. This isn’t the first time that a trial involving Najib has been postponed.

Najib’s trial dates have been postponed at least five times, with reasons ranging from the son of his lead counsel getting married and one of his defence lawyers falling ill to parliamentary sittings and now this. The best part is that Najib is likely not going to be able to make it for certain court dates between July 13 – 17, if Najib’s presence as Pekan MP is required in the Dewan Rakyat when it reconvenes on the 13th of July.

How is Najib ever going to be prosecuted for his alleged crimes if his trial can’t even conclude? It almost seems like his master plan is to try to delay proceedings as much as possible until BN returns to power and his charges are either magically dropped or he’s found not guilty of all charges.

Given the political turmoil currently facing the country, that might actually just happen. What do you make of this? Let us know in the comments.
