Sound-based Virtual Reality Game ‘Stifled’ Launches on PlayStation 4

Looking for an interesting take on stealth-based horror? Stifled might be the one to go for as it’s a multi-award winning, horror, sound-based, virtual reality (VR) game. Sony Interactive Entertainment Hong (SIE) Kong Limited’s Singapore Branch (SIES) confirms that the indie game Stifled is now available on the Sony PlayStation 4 (PS4).

stifled is a sound-based horror virtual reality game

The player takes control of David Ridley. Following a heart-breaking experience, Ridley’s mind begins to fracture and his world turns dark.

Players must generate sound waves using items, as well as their voice, to traverse the world now as Ridley. At the same time, they must avoid attracting horrifying creatures that lurk in the dark. The player progresses through the game using sound only, yet it’s their own audio that attracts the baddies and allow them to find the player.

Indeed, this is not for the faint of heart. Players can hook up a VR game headset and microphone for an even more immersive experience.

Hidetoshi Takigawa, Southeast Asia Regional Head of SIES, says, “On behalf of SIES, we are excited for the global release of Stifled on the PS4. This reinforcers the positive results of our support towards games development in this region and how SIE can bring a Southeast Asian independent game to the global audience.”

Stifled is an idea that Singapore’s Gattai Games created with the backing of Games@PIXEL Studios. Also supporting the initiative are Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP). SIES is a long-time partner with Games@PIXEL and NYP, having provided PlayStation development kits to the groups since 2008.

This game includes language support for English, Traditional Chinese, Korean and Thai. The digital version of Stifled is available from the online Sony PlayStation Store.
