At The Game Awards 2024, 2K and Firaxis Games revealed the in-game opening cinematic for Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, showcasing the rich storytelling and historical depth of the game. The cinematic, accompanied by a live orchestral performance, features music composed by GRAMMY®-award winner Christopher Tin.
The cinematic, narrated by Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones, Star Wars), takes viewers on a journey through time. It begins with a lone farmer discovering a rusted saber, symbolising the passing of history from generation to generation. This visual narrative highlights the game’s central theme – that history is built in layers.
The event also saw the debut of Civilization VII‘s main theme, “Live Gloriously,” composed by Tin. “With ‘Live Gloriously,’ I wanted to capture universal themes of hope, heroism and mortality that have resonated across history,” said Tin. The piece incorporates words from iconic texts such as The Iliad, Beowulf, Popol Vuh, and Ramayana, evoking a profound sense of gravity and emotion.
Sid Meier’s Civilization VII will be released on Feb 11, 2025, across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store), and Mac and Linux (via Steam). The game is currently rated E10+ by the ESRB.
