Samsung’s Lineup Of QLED 8K TV’s Set To Usher In Next Gen Resolutions And Gaming

Samsung brought us to their office to check out their new lineup of QLED 8K TV’s, and in particular, their highest spec QLED TV, the Q900R. Oh, and for your information, it costs RM 299,999. They showed us all the features and improvements that the QLED line is capable of, and saying we were impressed is an understatement.

Samsung’s brand of QLED 8K TVs are well equipped to say the least. And even more so to tackle gaming. With the latest PlayStation and Xbox consoles (which will be 8K compatible) on the horizon, you have to remember the hardware that’ll be needed to run those beasts. That’s where Samsung’s lineup of 8K TVs come into play. As I’ve mentioned before in my review of Sharp’s AQUOS 8K TV, the amount of 8K content is minimal. But Japan has started 8K broadcasts, so it’s only a matter of time before we transition to it as the new standard.

Also, Samsung’s Q Series of TV’s actually have AI up-scaling tech. This is called Machine Learning Super Resolution (MSLR), and it evaluations millions of low and high res images. With that, even content in SD, HD, FHD, and 4K will be able to scale up to 8K resolution as best as it can. That kind of settles the score in terms of 8K content being limited, as from what we saw today, there is a huge difference between the two. Colours are more vibrant because of the 100% Colour Volume, you can’t see any pixels because there’s 33 Million of them on the display, and various other features and improvements.

There’s honestly too much to go over, but the thing that stood out for me, was the Real Game Enhancer.

The Game Enhancer mode has various things to make the gaming experience better. Above is what exactly the gaming mode does. The Dynamic Black Enhancer is basically a cheat code, because it makes you see in the dark better. It basically increases the contrast in dark areas, and seeing it firsthand, it definitely does the job.

The 8K TV’s also have low input lag, so you won’t experience tearing, as well as the game not responding to controls from your controller. Samsung has probably given it some thought, considering that next gen consoles, the PS5 as well as Xbox Scarlett have been confirmed to have 8K support. I’m sure that gave Samsung a bit of a clearer goal for gaming on their TV’s.

The Q900R 98″ option goes for a whopping RM 299,999. So up to you if you’d like a TV, or a condo in Sentul. 8K displays and TV’s probably will cost you a bomb right now, but keep in mind that 8K is the future. The future is expensive, but gradually as it becomes more widespread and adopted, the 8K style of life will hopefully be more affordable, and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
