Head developer of PUBG and overall gaming God of 2017, Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene finally opens up about his upcoming plans for the hit battle royale game this year. This includes an extensive list of updates and features that will be rolled out over the course of the year.
The first piece of news is its commitment to a major content delivery cycle every two months, with the first already planned for this month. He also mentions that each of these updates will bring changes to specific systems and/or introduce new content. Another notable update is its new Experimental Test Server, which will give players a platform where they can be more involved in the ongoing development of PUBG.
The game’s aesthetics will also be improved and there are even “Before and After” images of the rendered buildings we can come to expect in the coming months.
Another exciting feature that will be added into the game next month is a new map that is much smaller. This 4x4km island map will be released on the Experimental Test Server to give players a much more compact space to work with, which will further fuel the intensity and chaos that PUBG is already known for. “It will offer a higher player density and shorter matches and we want to get it into your hands early this time around so we can use your input to make it a great experience for everyone,” the article says about the new map.
An 8x8km map is also currently in the works but there have been no confirmation as to when it will be deployed into the Experimental Test Server.
Emotes will also play a huge part in the development of PUBG, which will be available in its Test Servers soon. To check out a preview of some of the emotes, you can head here or here.
Other notable updates and changes include:
- New addition of vehicles, weapons and attachments, which are slated to release in the first half of the year
- “Limb and vehicle bullet penetration”, which promises to add depth into the game’s existing ballistics system
- Addition customisation, especially with parachutes and weapon skins
- Achievements, in-game friends list and squad voice chat to be available in the main menu
- Overhauling its first-person perspective (FPP) and third-person perspective (TPP) animations system to make it smoother and more realistic
- Giving realistic animations when entering/exiting vehicles or changing seats
- Overhauling the parachuting system to make it more refined and responsive as well as its melee combat systems
- Adding greater detail into sound
So that’s it for the 2018 PUBG Roadmap. Please keep in mind that this list of new features and systems is not exhaustive as far as 2018 is concerned. There are other things we plan to introduce that we were not yet ready talk about, so stay tuned!
