Earlier this month, makers of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) revealed the game’s plans for the rest of the year, which consisted of a newer, smaller map. This map will soon be available to the PUBG test servers soon, according to Chang Han Kim, CEO of and executive producer of PUBG Corp. and Brendan Greene, creative director of PUBG.
This comes after both Kim and Brendan gave a one-year anniversary “Thank You” video, posted through PUBG’s official YouTube channel. In the video, Kim talks about the public testing phase for the new 4×4 map, which will be available in early April, which is just a week away. “We would like to go back to the days of when we were developing the game and pursuing open development once more, testing this game with our players and completing it together with you guys,” says Kim.
Greene promises to get the new 4×4 map into the PUBG test servers as soon as possible, and hoping to gain constructive feedback from the large pool of PUBG players that have since gotten bored of the game and have jumped onto the Fortnite bandwagon.
A short snippet of the video also showcased a few clips from various PUBG streamers, which includes the likes DrDisRespect and the self-proclaimed “King of Reddit”, Shroud.
According to Polygon, Greene was at the recent Game Developers Conference (GDC) and offered attendees a sneak peek of the new map. It measures at just 16 square kilometres instead of the usual 64 sqaure kilometres seen on the two main maps. The map is said to have a more Southeast Asian feel – whatever that means – and promises to be more intense due to its size.
Here are some snippets of the new 4×4 map that will be coming soon.
With Fortnite steadily catching up to PUBG with its cartoon-like graphics and troll-grade gameplay, PUBG will definitely need to bring their A-game in 2018 to be able to capture the crowd once again. This comes after popular Canadian rapper and singer Drake was spotted playing Fortnite with popular streamer Ninja on the game did it suddenly blow out of proportion and everybody is suddenly jumping to it.
