NEM Malaysia Hosts First-ever Women in Blockchain Asia

NEM Malaysia hosted the first-ever Women in Blockchain (WIB) Asia event at the NEM Blockchain Centre (NBC) – the largest blockchain centre of its kind in Asia. The event was held at GLO Damansara in Kuala Lumpur.

Blockchain technology has been gaining global traction across various verticals and industries, some of which may seem unlikely given the differences in the tech, and the ‘non-financial’ nature of some of these sectors. Besides highlighting the achievements of women in the blockchain sphere, speakers at WIB presented in-depth insights into the impact of blockchain in areas such as healthcare and the legal community, apart from topics like cybersecurity and privacy. The inaugural edition also partnered two local non-profit women’s organisations to highlight the discussion around women at risk of social and economic exclusion, and how the blockchain community can play a part in creating better lives. Part of the proceeds from WIB will be donated to their cause.

Maria Chin Abdullah, member of Parliament for Petaling Jaya, graced the occasion and congratulated NEM for organising the event which provides a platform for empowering women especially in marginalised communities, and how revolutionary technologies such as blockchain can be leveraged for social good.

NEM Malaysia serves as the headquarters for regional operations for NEM in Asia (excluding China and ANZ). With almost 11,000-square-feet of space, the recently launched NBC is the largest of its kind in the region that is fully operated by a blockchain technology organisation. NBC will house the NEM Blockchain Innovation Lab, a headquarters for research and development as well as regional support for organisations interested in using the NEM platform within their IT infrastructures.

It also serves as a co-working space, with several Malaysian companies already using its services and facilities for blockchain-related learning and knowledge-sharing events. Malaysian organisations can leverage the NEM network and technology to develop blockchain solutions for the Malaysian economy while having access to training events, service providers and technical support.

The NEM blockchain is already being adopted in a number of industries and services in Asia and around the world, including Appsolutely Inc., the largest rewards and loyalty programme company in the Philippines; a point-of-sale terminal for cryptocurrency for the retail industry (Pundi X) in Indonesia; and backend payment and mobile settlement solutions by Dragonfly Fintech Pte. Ltd., Singapore.
