Nikon has recently announced the next pro DSLR in it’s line up and the successor to it’s D5 camera. No guesses for what the camera is called though. Dubbed the D6, the camera is the latest in a long line of D-series DSLRs.
In typical Nikon fashion, the company has announced nothing of any significance about the camera, other than it’s attempt at the most Tim Cook-esque description possible, dubbing it as “it’s most advanced digital SLR yet.”
Based off the picture above, the D6 looks pretty much identical to its predecessors, the D5 and D4, from the front. It could be a very different story in the back, but we’ll only know for sure when Nikon releases more images. At this point, it’s safe to assume that they took a picture of the D5 and photoshopped the characters “D6” on it.
The company has also confirmed that a new fast telephoto zoom lens is in the works, the AF-S Nikkor 120-300mm f/2.8E FL ED SR VR. It’s likely that both the body and the lens are being developed alongside each other and will be released at the same time, which is rumoured to be just in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics
The Nikon D-series of DSLRs are an especially beloved choice among sports photographers for the camera’s speed and reliability. So, come July 24th next year, when you’re on your Olympic Games marathon and randomly start to wonder how much it’s going to cost cameramen to replace their cameras when they inevitably get hit by a stray football or random projectile, just google the Nikon D6. You can be damn sure that it’ll be the camera of choice for most of them.
