If you were a student back in the 2000s, you may recall a little game called MapleStory. This free 2D MMORPG was the trend of the generation, lauded for its music, intricate design, as well as cute artistic style. It’s been a long time coming but the official sequel to that game, MapleStory 2, has finally launched across the globe.

Publisher Nexon isn’t trying to replicate the success of its first game, and instead wants to redefine the genre. The new game provides a wide set of character options, a fresh progression and growth system, but most significantly, world-building tools. This means that players have the ability to customise everything, unlike how it was in the original game. Furthermore, MapleStory 2 is making the jump from 2D to 3D.

Character classes in the game include the Archer, Assassin, Berserker, Heavy Gunner, Knight, Priest, Thief, Wizard, as well as a brand new Runeblade class. This new class is a magical swordsman that infuses their swords with the elements. The class uses special two-handed bladed weapon that takes up both available weapon slots.

Commemorating the official launch of the game, MapleStory 2 will also feature gameplay improvements such as:

• Level cap increase from 50 to 60
• The gorgeous Karkar Island
• Lv 51 – 60 fields in Maple World/ Land of Darkness
• 8 Normal Adventure Dungeons
• 4 Hard Adventure Dungeons
• 2 Sets of Epic Gear

Commemorating its launch, players can stand a chance to win a Mint Body Pillow. All they have to do is follow MapleStory 2’s Twitter and Facebook accounts, and then retweet or share the Official Launch Gameplay video.

Earlier in July, Nexon launched its mobile version of MapleStory, called MapleStory M, which celebrated 5 million downloads in just two weeks. The game went on to release a new Cygnus Knights class.

MapleStory 2 is now available for free on PC. You can download the game via the Nexon Launcher and Steam.
