Alibaba.com is a wholesale marketplace operating in the global trade arena. Buyers on the platform span 190 countries, typically trade agents, wholesalers, retailers, manufacturers and Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) engaged in import and export business. The company offers its members import/export supply chain services, including customs clearance, trade financing and logistics services.
During the recently concluded #SuperSeptember Online Expo, it was shown that Malaysian merchants saw double digit increase in sales and inquiries from global buyers. Also during the campaign, many Malaysian industries showed tremendous growth potential, from food and beverage to rubber and plastic products.
Through process optimisation of its one-stop reading services, Alibaba.com was able to help local merchants reduce export customs declarations from seven days down to only one day.
Another feature introduced by Alibaba.com is Trade Confidence. This system encourages trust between buyers globally and Malaysian suppliers, by offering a free order protection to the buyer. In the event of payment, shipping and product quality disputes, the system will cover the buyer in the transaction process.
This system had already been introduced in the Business-to-Consumer (B2C) environment, AliExpress.com with great success in inspiring trust with potential buyers on that platform.
