Malaysia’s Flying Car Set To Take To The Skies For The First Time Tomorrow

Remember the flying car project that was so confidently announced a couple of months ago at the Langkawi Air and Maritime show? The one that drew the ire and sarcasm of pretty much the whole nation, along with the skepticism of opposition MPs? Well, the car is finally taking to the skies tomorrow!

Minister of Entrepreneur Devopment, Redzuan Yusof is all set to take a test ride in Malaysia’s very first “flying car” tomorrow.

“I want to repeat my invitation to the respected MPs. This Thursday, I myself will be riding the flying vehicle or two-man vehicle.

“I invite Mohd Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar) if he wants to come. If he wants to take pictures while sitting on it as it flies, we can sit together,”

Entrepreneur Development Minister of Malaysia, Redzuan Yusof

The project is being helmed by a Malaysian company and understandably drew skepticism when it was first announced, but this was due to the fact that it was referred to as a flying car instead of what it actually is, which is  pretty much a big drone (known as an air mobility platform).

The vehicle will go by the name Vector and will be powered by four motors running off a lithium-ion battery. Vector can carry a load of up to 200kg and fly up to 50m off the ground at a maximum speed of 60km/h for around 30-90 minutes.

It honestly just sounds like one big, expensive toy for the little boy in every man. Whatever it is, it’ll be interesting to see how this test ride goes. Surely, Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Yusof won’t be able to stop talking about it if it goes well. Should something go wrong though, i’m pretty sure he’ll never heard the end of it.

It may not exactly be a car but Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Yusof does genuinely sound like his heart is in the right place, which is always nice to see.
