Words can’t possibly describe how excited I was when news broke that the Lord of The Rings was getting a TV series. I mean come on, the LOTR trilogy is quite possibly the greatest blockbuster Hollywood fantasy films ever filmed! Peter Jackson has a special place in my heart.

So, the series may have yet to even begin filming but according to Deadline, there’s already plans for a season 2 in the works. Per the report, the plan is apparently to shoot the first few episodes of season one before taking a four to five month break while working on things such as scripts and the approach to be taken for the rest of the first two seasons.

Okay it kind of sounds like they don’t exactly have a proper plan or direction as of yet but seeing as nothing has been filmed, that’s aye okay. If anything, it shows that Amazon is taking this title very seriously and want to make sure everything is planned out properly.

Seeing shows be given the green light for a second season before even starting on the first seems to be a trend in Hollywood these days, with Netflix recently renewing The Witcher series for a second season a full month or so before season one releases and Apple signing up it’s original TV shows for a return season just a month into its release.

The Lord of The Rings TV series is set to film in New Zealand and will apparently cost a fortune. Taking this into account, it makes sense that showrunners would want to get everything right before the camera starts to roll. If you’re wondering, the series will cover the period well before the events that took place in the Fellowship of The Ring, so it’s going to be a prequel that leads up to the events in the first movie.
