Ok let me explain the title. This camera holds a total of 52MP, with 16 lenses.
Called the Light L16, it was first revealed to the world back in 2015. The prototype looked like this:

At first glance, this camera looks rather – off putting, and nothing like what you’d expect from a normal camera. Not the best kinda camera if you were trypophobic (fear of a cluster of small holes – Google and regret later).

“The L16 is the first multi-aperture computational camera that packs DSLR quality and capability into a device that fits in your pocket,” says Light. “The L16 is smaller, lighter, less expensive, and provides better image quality than any camera in its price class.”
Specs and features list include 35-150mm optical zoom, exceptional low-light performance, low image noise, precise depth of field control, and a 5-inch touchscreen on the back for editing and sharing your photos.
So it seems like it’s finally ready for production and shipping.
Barring some minor design changes, here’s a closer look at the camera modules, which are all labelled on the front face:
We see that the camera uses six 150mm f/2.4 telephoto lenses, five 70mm f/2 midrange lenses, and five 28mm f/2 wide-angle lenses.
While no new production product photos of the camera’s back have emerged yet, here’s what it looked like back in mid 2016:
According to a Petapixel report, “Light announced in July 2016 that it had raised $30 million in funding to transform the way people take pictures.
The company is saying that the Light L16 is currently sold out, and that it’s currently working on building cameras for all the existing pre-order customers who placed orders on the $1,699 camera based on the announcement alone. Pre-order shipments will begin on July 14th, 2017, and the company expects to start taking new orders sometime in late 2017.”
Sceptical? I know I am – but have a look at the gallery on their website and judge for yourself. While I’m interested in a new, more convenient way of taking photos – I still love my mirrorless and DSLR a bit too much to give them up. Definitely interested in taking this for a review run though. What do you think?
