Hoping to be lucky again in 2016, LG held its annual InnoFest conference in Seoul on February 16th and 17th. The InnoFest roadshow began earlier this year in Dubai with an expo for partners in Africa and the Middle East.
LG InnoFest provided the company with the opportunity to showcase its diverse range of products including consumer electronics and home appliances for the benefit of regional business partners, retailers and media. This year’s edition gave approximately 300 dealers and journalists from 15 countries across the region, including Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand, the chance to gain hands-on experience with LG’s latest products.
At the conference, LG introduced its new LG Signature product lineup. According to LG, it brings together the company’s best technology and best designs under a single brand name.
Some of the home appliance offerings in the Signature lineup include a Twin Wash washing machine, a Door-in-Door refrigerator and a hybrid air purifier. The LG Signature products have been carefully designed by a special team of leading design experts. The most impressive of these are obviously the company’s latest OLED TVs. Boasting better blacks and higher contrast than regular LCD TVs, this year’s lineup of LG OLED TVs also include HDR and 4K features.
HDR stands for high dynamic range. It essentially takes a series of images, each shot with a different exposure from darkest to lightest. HDR combines the best parts of the three overexposed, underexposed, and balanced shots to create a dramatic image with beautiful shadowing and highlights.
In order to experience all the light and shadow variations in a daylight image, HDR is an absolute requirement. 128-bit HDR has been available to videogame developers for sometime now. However, due to the limitations of the standard LCD and CRT displays, it was not possible to display the full colour range of the image – until now. With the advent of the HDR OLED TVs, games and movies will start to look much better.
Another topic that was doing the rounds at the conference was IoT. Although no details were available, LG is promising more IoT smart devices this year. Google has already announced LG as one of its key partners.
Attendees also got the opportunity to visit the world-famous N Seoul Tower which hosts a massive OLED display made up of 248 individual 55-inch LG OLED TVs.
