I.. I Don’t Know How To React But Xiaomi’s Upcoming Mi 10 Can Solve A Rubik’s Cube IN 1.43 Seconds

Xiaomi is set to unveil their upcoming flagships, the Mi 10 series this Thursday on February 13th 2020. That’s in a few days, but they’re already running some promo campaigns to get some attention on their new smartphones. They showed off two video teasers, one where they showed the Mi 10 calculate 10 million digits after Pi’s decimal point in 36.8 seconds. It was supposed to show off the capacity and capability of the Snapdragon 865 against an Intel-powered laptop.

This to me, was less so impressive and over the top as the next teaser video; the Mi 10 solving a Rubik’s Cube in 1.43 seconds.

I mean, it’s just, I don’t even know what to say. Is ridiculous the right word? It certainly is something. The video showed off the Mi 10 solving a Rubik’s Cube against a Rubik’s Cube world champion Du Yusheng. It’s really really ridiculous and I don’t know what this is even supposed to accomplish. The video was posted by Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s CEO, and it shows how Du Yusheng took 6.47 seconds to finish the Rubik’s Cube, whereas the Mi 10 took 1.43 seconds.

How was this fair?!?

That’s cool I guess? But I don’t feel like that was a fair competition considering that the robotic arms were powered by the Mi 10 which is running Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 SoC. And did you see that setup in the video? That robot looks like something out of Rick and Morty whose sole purpose, was to solve Rubik’s Cubes.

As impressive as it is, I’m not sure what this actually means about the Mi 10’s performance. Assuming that the video is proof of something, we can assume that they’re trying to tell the tale of a device that performs quick. We were already sure that devices running Qualcomm’s latest processors would be pretty damn good, so I guess they can add these two accolades to the table. To me though, this was just an utterly ridiculous PR opportunity, and considering that I’m writing about it now, means it worked. Kudos Xiaomi, kudos.

The Mi 10 and 10 Pro will be unveiled for China launch on February 13th, and will get a global launch in Spain on February 23rd at MWC 2020. This was confirmed as of today, as Xiaomi have reached out to say they will be attending the event.
