The Hitachi HL100 Blu-ray Optical Archiving Library System finally debuts in Malaysia, with its first successful installation at Hitachi Electronic Products Malaysia (HEPM) 2014 in Bandar Baru Bangi. This is, on record, the world’s first Blu-Ray Optical Archive System designed to safely store data for more than 50 years.
“We carried out the first Malaysian implementation the HL100 Optical Archiving Library System at Hitachi Electronic Products Malaysia (HEPM) in Bandar Baru Bangi. After successfully testing the device we have since adopted the HL100 library as the backup solution for all critical business systems across both Windows and Unix-based IT environments at HEPM,” says Dr.Tamizarasu Nandan, CIO at HEPM.
Targeted at large organisations within the public and private sector, the HL100 is said to provide a safe, secure and cost-effective data storage system. Notable features include real-time multiple user access, not needing advance technical support, and incorporating automated routine backup operations.
The HL100 is made up of two cartridges, each holding 250 enterprise quality Blu-ray discs and twelve optical drives that can simultaneously read Blu-ray discs to deliver extremely high throughput of data. Each Blu-ray disc can hold up to 100GB of data, giving the HL100 50TB of raw capacity.
The HL100 will be rolled out globally beginning October 2014 after its successful implementation at HEPM.
