Grab announces their vision to become Malaysia’s number one everyday consumer app. This includes mobility, on-demand food delivery, logistics, cashless payments, and financial services all through one mobile app. It won’t be long before Grab is everywhere; take a GrabCar to work, use GrabPay to cover lunch, send your spouse a gift through GrabExpress and have dinner thanks to GrabFood.
“We are in a position to power this future of smart cities for consumers. This is because of the interconnectedness of each of our services and how they help each other grow. We started with making transport more efficient. Now, we’re introducing GrabFood and GrabPay as a mobile wallet to Malaysia soon. Transport and good are two of the most relevant use cases of our GrabPay mobile wallet. It allows Malaysian consumers to enjoy the benefit of a cashless society, ” says Sean Goh, Country Head of Grab Malaysia.
Goh adds, “By building a technology platform that serves the most important everyday lifestyle of our consumers, we are benefiting from an entire ecosystem of connected users who are not only passengers and driver passengers but also increasingly merchants and delivery partners. We can help everyone, particularly micro entrepreneurs grow their businesses and serve consumers better. ”
One App For Everything
There will be four main areas that Grab will be expanding into, which are:
- Transport: Grab hopes to provide a multimodal future serving people’s first- and last-mile needs. Users will be able to customise their transport options based on preferences and budget. Grab hopes that anyone can ride across and pay for multiple modes of transportation seamlessly; one such way is through better integration of public and private transportation options in one platform.
- Payments: Both user and merchant will have a better transaction method thanks to the expansion of GrabPay as an e-wallet beyond transport. Users can enjoy easy convenience and seamless retail experience by going cashless. Traditional businesses meanwhile increase their productivity and save costs when they go cashless. GrabPay and GrabRewards will become revenue drivers for microentrepreneurs and SMEs too.
- Financial services: Grab’s fintech services will boost economic opportunities for millions of unbanked and underbanked folk across the region. Grab hopes to enable 100 million microentrepreneurs by 2020.
- Lifestyle: Your most important everyday needs will be met thanks to Grab’s all-encompassing app. The opportunity and flexibility to provide services at your own pace provides everyone the opportunity of a digital economy.
GrabFood Is Coming Soon
GrabFood is currently in the midst of a pilot program in selected areas such as Bangsar, Mont Kiara, and Sri Hartamas. Once Grab manages to get some feedback on their operations, GrabFood will be launching in full. Their target date is currently the end of the month, with the Klang Valley being the first area to get it.
On top of that, GrabPay as an e-wallet will be arriving in a few months time. GrabPay will allow users to pay at traditional vendors using cashless transactions.
Goh says, “GrabFood and GrabPay mobile wallet are the next major step to serve the daily essential consumer needs. Each day, millions of people in Southeast Asia rely on ride-hailing services to bring them place to place, as well as food delivery services to save time travelling around in congested cities to satisfy their cravings. Food delivery is a natural extention of our transport offerings and these services can be enabled by one GrabPay mobile wallet to bring about greater convenience for consumers.”
“With hour acquisition of Uber’s operations in Malaysia and the expansion of GrabFood across the region, we are working with local merchants and delivery partners to deliver the best of Malaysia’s kitchens to the doorsteps of millions in the very near future,” adds Goh.
