Google Introduces New Fast Pair Feature

Some people would call it being ‘old-fashioned’, but there are still those out there who prefer to plug in their earphones instead of connecting wirelessly, since the first method is way easier. Although, what is your Android phone is able to automatically detect a nearby Bluetooth headphone (or any other wireless device for that matter) and pair it with a single tap?

In an official blog post, Google announced that a new wave of Bluetooth devices that will allow users to do just that with its new Fast Pair feature. It broadcasts a low-energy signal that your phone can constantly scan for. Theoretically, the process will not use too much of battery power because it will be using the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communications system.

Once detected, a notification will pop up on the phone and a single tap takes care of the rest. No passwords, PINs, codes or any of those things anymore. According to Google, this new feature will work with any existing Android phone (Android 6.0 and up). However, you’ll need to have a Fast Pair-enabled Bluetooth peripheral on the other end as well.

Your device should also be updated to the latest Google Play Services app to version 11.7 or newer, just in case.
