Google’s GDC to Introduce A New Wave of Video Ads

Google will soon be launching video ads into its Google Play app store after introducing it a few days ago prior to Games Developer Conference (GDC) 2018. This will be done through the help of Universal App Campaigns (UAC), which uses Google’s machine learning technology to find loyal fans of the mobile gaming community across Google.com, Google Play, YouTube, and over three million sites and apps in the Google Display Network.

These beta video ads will be rolled out in the coming months to reach out to a wider fan base of players. This is done through AdMobs, which will drive in-app video impressions higher than ever before. While most free mobile games do feature ads, not many of them are rewarded ads, which means you will have to brave through said ads to be rewarded with items, gold, etc. etc. Luckily with AdMob, more than 45% of its top 1,000 gaming partners (by revenue) feature rewarded ads, which monetises their apps.

What Google will be introducing to AdMob developers in the coming months are two new rewarded ad experiences: playable ads and multiple-option video ads. This allows developers to not only monetise their ads, but to also engage with gamers who can interact with the ads without disrupting the gameplay.

Another new innovation that will be implemented soon is Open Bidding on AdMob. With mediation being an important strategy to grow revenue from different ad networks, Open Bidding will focus strictly on monetisation. Networks can now bid to serve ads in your app simultaneously, which will increase competition and lead to higher revenue. Payments are also simplified through Open Bidding and few SDK implementations, which in turn will have integrated reports in a single performance dashboard.

Currently, there are four Open Bidding partners like Smaato, OpenX and Index Exchange . Over the course of the next few months, Google will be adding in additional networks, which includes Vungle and AdColony.
