God of War’s Easter Egg Is a Clever Reference to Avengers Infinity War

The new God of War is a smash hit, having earned a spot as the fastest-selling PlayStation 4 exclusive ever. Rather fitting, then, that it shares a sentence with Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War. Indeed, the folks at Santa Monica Studios have included a God of War easter egg featuring the film’s iconic Infinity Gauntlet.

God of War Easter Egg comes in the form of the Shattered Gauntlet of Ages

In God of War, players may have picked up a talisman called the Shattered Gauntlet of Ages. It describes itself vaguely as, “An ancient relic of Hel deemed too powerful to remain whole, fragments of its former strength lie scattered throughout the realms…” Although the talisman activates, it seems to do nothing for Kratos. The description does not detail a specific function like the other talismans, either.

Well it turns out that, like the accessory it’s inspired by, players must first journey across the realms to collect all six stones. These six ‘Infinity Stones’ are obtainable through the following methods:

  • Andvari’s Soul (Soul Stone) – complete Brok’s Deus Ex Malachite favor
  • Asgard’s Shard of Existence (Reality Stone) – defeat Valkyrie Rota in Helheim
  • Eye of the Outer Realm (Space Stone) – found in Hidden Chamber of Odin in Helheim
  • Ivaldi’s Corrupted Mind (Mind Stone) – defeat Valkyrie Olrun in Alfheim
  • Muspelheim Eye of Power (Power Stone) – purchase at the Muspelheim shop
  • Njord’s Temporal Stone (Time Stone) – defeat Valkyrie Queen

After players have obtained the stones, they can slot them into sockets found on the talisman. Unlike the Infinity Gauntlet, however, the Shattered Gauntlet of Ages only holds up to three stones at any given time. In any case, slotting the stones in and activating the talisman shoots out a powerful beam towards enemies that even boomerangs back.

If you’re only beginning your search for this God of War easter egg, you only need to find the dwarf Sindri. He’ll give you a quest called Family Business, which is a lengthy but worthwhile quest. Towards the end, you will find the whetstone that Sindri wants on a derelict boat. You’ll end up fighting a Traveler, which drops the Shattered Gauntlet of Ages.

God of War is currently available on the PlayStation 4.
