Gobind: TM Must Address Streamyx Complaints

Our new minister is taking on to Twitter as his choice of interaction with followers. on the on going saga between the GLC tasked to connect Malaysian with high speed broadband, Telekom Malaysia and his Ministry.

Ever since taking over the job, Communication Minister Gobind Deo Singh has been relentless in his efforts to get high speed broadband up to regional standards in coverage, while keeping owning them affordable. Within 3 months, Malaysian have already seen prices coming down and speeds rocketing up! Maxis brought down price for its 30Mbps plan to RM89 and 100Mbps to just RM129, TM with Unifi also reacted by increasing speeds for subscribers to10x and opened up the RM79 30Mbps B40 package to all citizens. But the reactive nature of the operators does not quite complete the overhaul the brash Minister has in mind. In his latest directive, Gobind insisted TM to find ways to get access to every home in the country and improve standard of service on par with global standards. This was in response to the latest spate of complaints from users on the lack of coverage, poor stability and bloated pricing for plans.

“We are looking into this matter seriously with MCMC, discussion is currently on going with all telco’s and a new price structure will be announced very soon” he iterated. The arrow was also targeted at Streamyx, a broadband plan delivered over copper, numerous responses from his Twitter followers were rather harsh on the service, and Gobind called for TM to address them immediately as well.

In response, the GLC acknowledges the Ministry concerns and will be taking measures to increase penetration for high speed broadband across the country, look into affordability and improve speeds.
