E3 2017 – Nintendo

Another Japanese gaming development and publishing powerhouse was in Los Angeles for E3, a day after Sony Interactive Entertainment took to the stage. After the release of the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo has since been steadily on the rise since its debut on 3rd March this year. At this year’s E3, Nintendo had one of the shortest showcases of the event but it was jam-packed with crowd favourites along with new additions to the ever-growing lineup of games going to made available for the Switch.

One such game would be Rocket League, the popular football-with-rocket-powered-cars video game as it will be compatible on the Switch towards the tail end of 2017. One great feature that will be added into Rocket League is the customisable Mario hats that will sit atop the cars, much like the Deadmau5 head customisation. Another feature that will be introduced in Rocket League for the Switch would be cross-platform play, meaning that Switch users will be able to match up with other players from different platforms, giving you a wider audience to destroy.

Another game to make a mark during Nintendo’s livestream was everyone’s favourite Italian plumber – Mario as the iconic Nintendo character will be coming to the Switch this 27th October 2017. This time around, Super Mario Odyssey will feature a ‘sandbox’ style gameplay while the focus of the preview was Mario’s ability to use his hat as a weapon, as opposed to simply just jumping on his enemies and turning them into gold coins.

Of course, Mario wouldn’t be complete without his sidekick – Yoshi (no one cares about you, Luigi!), who will also be getting his own game come 2018. Kirby will also be getting its own game in 2018, both of which look absolutely amazing and surprisingly fun to play. Guess it’s time for me to save up for a Nintendo Switch.

In other news, all Pokémon fans rejoice because there will be two different Pokémon games coming to the Switch! I for one am absolutely dying inside. First up is the popular Japanese arcade game – Pokkén Tournament Deluxe, a blend between Pokémon and Tekken, which was announced earlier this week. What followed was a short monologue by Tsunekazu Ishihara, CEO and President of the Pokémon Company and they are working on bringing a Pokémon RPG game to the Switch in 2018.

Come 30th June will be the first of two DLC expansion packs into the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The first DLC offers new armour for Link, a new smart map and even a horde mode known as ‘Trial of the Sword’. The second part of the DLC is titled – The Champions’ Ballad will include more depth into the story as well as featuring four champions from Hyrule. The second part of the DLC is slated for a release during Holiday 2017.

Making a switch over from the Wii and onto the Switch will also be Xenoblade Chronicles 2, a direct sequel from the first instalment. This JRPG is scheduled for a late 2017 release and is the only JRPG to feature during E3 this year. Also, harking back to the days where GameCube was the dominant console, Nintendo introduces Metroid Prime 4, a sequel to the trilogy that was made available only on the Wii.
