According to App Annie and BBC, the app has gained twice the download numbers in the span of two weeks. From February 1 to February 16, the downloads had grown from beyond 3.5 million to 8.1 million.

Solely in the US, the app has been downloaded more than 2.6 million times, helped in large part by the appearances (on the app) by high-profile figures like Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

In Malaysia, the app has boosted to the top of the free iOS apps. The app already topped the MySejahtera and TikTok, according to Sensor Tower.

The notable Malaysian users are Najib Razak, the former Prime Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin, the minister of Science, Innovation and Technology, Nazir Razak, the CIMB Group Chairman, Tony Fernandes, the Group CEO of AirAsia and Selangor’s State Minister, Amirudin Shari. As a matter of fact, Khairy Jamaludin has participated in a session discussing and answering questions regarding the Covid-19 vaccine.

Au contraire with China who blocked the app, the local politicians and industry leaders use the platform as a way to approach the citizens and be open in discussing sociopolitical issues. In China, it was blocked due to the discussion of the taboos such as China-Taiwan relations, Uighur Muslims, and the 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown.

Despite it being iOS exclusive and requiring an invitation in order to use it, this hasn’t slowed down the downloads. Clubhouse is still encouraging the downloads because newbies even without invite can still reserve their username for the future.
