adidas Originals has been around the block and as such, the company has a number of popular sneaker silhouettes in its portfolio. Two of its most iconic sneakers are without a doubt the Superstar and the Stan Smith, with both silhouettes having been around for 50 odd years. The Superstar, with its iconic shell toe is instantly recognizable while the Stan Smith has been the go to sneaker for those who want a minimalistic yet stylish sneaker for years.
Today, the company has announced that it is combining both sneakers to form the Superstan. The mash up sneaker takes the signature feature of each shoe — The shell toe on the Superstar and the classic colorway of the Stan Smith and merges them into one sneaker, with the result being a must cop sneaker.
The shoe actually looks great and while I’ve personally never been a fan of the shell toe, the Stan Smith upper and logo on the tongue just does it for me. With bulky shoes all the rage these days, this hybrid sneaker with more than 50 years of heritage is as relevant today as the sneakers it takes inspiration from was all those years ago.
With this being a special release, adidas Originals has produced a special film starring the main man himself, Mr Stan Smith, which was shot in his home state of sunny Florida. The video is very tongue-in-cheek and makes for a fun watch, regardless of whether or not you’re a fan of Stan or the sneaker named after him.
The adidas Superstan releases globally on February 1, and will retail at $110 USD on the adidas Originals web store. We’re not too sure how much it’s going to cost here in Malaysia, but with Adidas Superstars retailing for 80 USD in the states and selling for RM420 here in Malaysia, we fully expect it to be in the RM520-620 price range.
