Whether you pronounce it as ‘ghif’ or ‘jif’, GIF has been an integral part of communication on the internet – whether it be memes or a reaction or complementary to a funny article. GIF is now 30 years old and to celebrate this milestone, Facebook is rolling out GIFs in comments for all users.

Just tap the GIF button when you go to make a comment, search for a particular GIF, and add. This functionality was available limited to certain users/regions, but is now globally available for all users.

Since the roll out of GIFs in Messenger in 2015, Facebook recorded  nearly 13 billion GIFs sent in the last year.

On top of allowing GIFs in comments, Facebook also partnered with GIPHY Studios to create 20 GIFs featuring some of the popular internet stars, including DNCE, Logan Paul, Amanda Cerny, DREEZY, Patrick Starr, Violet Benson, Wuz Good, Brandi Marie, and Landon Moss. They will be available to use by searching #GIFparty

Facebook would also like to lay the debate of pronunciation to rest. Over the next few days, US residents might see a poll to cast a vote. You can also vote on Facebook’s official page.
