Verizon Concludes Yahoo Deal Now Renamed Altaba

After a tumultuous months since announcing the purchase interest of Yahoo, Verizon has finally been able to conclude the deal for US$4.4 billion giving it complete ownership of the search and news website.

Yahoo has been dealing with numerous internal issues of late giving investors much doubt about the deal, CEO Marissa was in the spotlight on couple of those occasions including millions of customer email accounts being hacked. With the sale Marissa will be walking out the door with a golden parachute estimated to be around US$23 million, not bad for someone who just muddled around in the company. The company will also be renamed to Altaba and now parked under a new entity called Oath which comprises of AOL, Huffington, Tumblr and a dozen other digital services. Under the leadership of Tim Armstrong who lead AOL will be looking at ways to monetise all this brands in the portfolio, with advertising being the main target.

Verizon will not be completely buying into a lagging business, Yahoo still owns 15% of Alibaba and Yahoo Japan which analyst comment are high potentials for growth and can be an asset for Verizon. Apart from this there is also the email and account database of millions that will be incorporated with AOL’s own database.

On human resources, there will be redundancies and the parent company has indicated of job cuts across the platforms.
