Samsung’s infamous Galaxy Fold stirs up something inside of people to debate on whether they think it’s a good foldable, or not. The Fold does have its merits in terms of revolutionising what a smartphone could be with this new form factor. But we can’t forget about the debacle with their screen malfunctions, and other hardware problems the device faced.
And then they fixed it, and everything went back to normal. Yes, it was the next step into the future of smartphones, but did it have mass appeal? It looked inconvenient to use, very brick like, boring, and just not enticing to normal, everyday consumers. While the device in itself, is impressive, it’s just that not enough people care about it being the ‘next big thing’, especially at the insane RM8,888 price point. It sold well, but it wasn’t for everybody. It just didn’t have pizzazz.
Their next try at a foldable was a hit though for many. It was sleek, stylish, and made more sense to more people. Just make what you have in your pocket now, smaller, without compromise.
But now, Windows United and Waqar Khan released some renders of the Galaxy Fold 2, based on rumours, patents and reports that have been surfacing online. To me, this makes the Fold 2 look ever more enticing that the original.

The device looks modern, sexy, and less bulky. Something people actually want to put in their pockets. And they’ve got rid of the awful mini external screen, with a ful sized Infinity-V display. Which makes way more sense because, a foldable should be something that you can use without folding. To me, the ‘foldable’ aspect should be a supplement rather than the only way to use a device. Not everyone wants to open up into a huge 7″+ display everytime they need to use their phone.
Anyway, when you open it up, there’s a punch-hole display, and a large, unencumbered screen, unlike the original Fold. They had that weird, big notch on the top right which I wasn’t a fan of either. Another thing of note is the camera setup which is updated to follow the S20’s design pattern, AND the S Pen. Which, I should add, makes SO much sense for a foldable. Why didn’t they just do this then?
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2: codename Champ. Will likely use Ultra Thin Glass. Could be the first phone with under display camera. 7.7" Infinity Flex Display. Likely launching around July. Should be around the same time as the Note20.

Thing is, these features are in line with a leak from Max Weinbach of XDA Developers who said the above. He mentioned the under display camera, 7.7″ Infinity Flex Display with Ultra Thin Glass, the Infinity-V display on the front, and S20+ cameras.
So we could very well see these renders come to life, considering that Weinbach has many a times been accurate, especially when it came to Samsung leaks and information. He also mentioned that the devices would be launching sometime in July, but that’s pretty unlikely given the current circumstances. Let’s just hope the rest is spot on though.
