Samsung Says They’ve Sold 400,000 To 500,000 Galaxy Folds; We’ve Been Told How Many Fold Sold

Samsung are back at it again, and are telling us of their sales numbers for the Galaxy Fold all over again. As a recap, Samsung Electronic’s President Young Sohn earlier last month that they had sold 1 million Galaxy Fold units, which they quickly retracted. And now, at CES 2020, Samsung’s President and CEO for IT and Mobile division, DJ Koh, shared some new sales numbers for the Fold. He told reporters at the event that Samsung sold between 400,000 to 500,000 units of the Galaxy Fold.

That’s pretty much at the very least, RM3.3 billion at RM8388 a pop. And that’s on just one device, and from it’s release in September 2019. That’s now as crazy as the RM8,388,000,000 estimate when they said they sold a million of em’, but it’s still a lot. Looks like foldables are more in demand that we thought.

But I mean, they are being the tiniest bit cagey with their numbers here. Giving just a rough estimate of 400,000 to 500,000 units sold, and the previous 1 million debacle, it’s hard to tell what’s the truth. Could they be hiding how successful the Fold has really been? To dissuade other competitors from developing their own? It’s speculation, but possible. Not likely, but like I said, possible. But moving on.

To bolster their movement into the foldable smartphone market, DJ also mentioned that they’ll be introducing the new clamshell foldable, commonly known as the Galaxy Fold 2, at CES 2020. Guess they’ve seen what the Foldable market can be, and they’re taking the initiative to actively pursue making more foldable device. Can’t blame em’, that money’s pretty sweet.
