With the introduction of the new iPhone Xs, Xs Max and Xr, Apple has decided to eliminate support of the classic 3.5mm audio jack once and for all out of the box. The company will now no longer bundle the 3.5mm-to-Lightning adapter for all new iPhone models – this includes the iPhone 7 and 8 that is still being sold on the Apple store.

The removal of the audio jack started with the iPhone 7, and four generations on, Apple looks to wean of its customers from the classic jack for ‘courageous’ reasons. Previously, the company bundled along with new purchases the 3.5mm-to-Lightning adapter in the box, albeit with little fanfare of its existence.

Now however with the release of the new models, Apple will no longer have the adapter in the box. This is reflected when users browse the tech specs of each phone on Apple’s website. Previously, the adapter is listed in the ‘What’s In The Box’ section, but it is now gone in the updated website.

This is definitely a push by Apple to embrace Bluetooth audio as it sees wireless music stream via its own AirPods or other third-party bluetooth earphones to be superior. Of course if consumers are still looking to re-use their own wired headsets, Apple will gladly sell the legacy adapter, for RM 49 on its webstore.
