Apple has just announced the new iPhone Xs and Xs Max, the upgrade to last year’s iPhone X. The new phone features new colour options, larger screen, as well as Apple’s new A12 Bionic processor.
The iPhone Xs features a 5.8-inch OLED display inherited from last year’s iPhone X. It does however feature a new processor – the A12 Bionic. The SoC is Apple’s first 7nm processor and also includes a Neural Engine for AI processing.
“iPhone Xs is packed with next-generation technologies and is a huge step forward for the future of the smartphone. Everything is state of the art including the industry-first 7-nanometer A12 Bionic chip with 8-core Neural Engine, faster Face ID and an advanced dual camera system that shoots Portrait mode photos with Smart HDR and dynamic depth of field,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPhone Xs is not one, but two new iPhone models, and iPhone Xs Max offers the biggest display ever in an iPhone with the biggest battery ever in an iPhone, delivering up to an hour and a half more battery life in your day.”

The next-generation Neural Engine is built for advanced machine learning in everything from photography to augmented reality. A new eight-core design allows it to complete up to 5 trillion operations per second compared to 600 billion in A11 Bionic.
Meanwhile the Xs Max features Apple’s largest screen to date – a 6.5-inch OLED display. It shares the same processor as the smaller Xs model, as well as the same camera system.

Speaking of cameras, the dual-camera on the Xs and Xs Max features dual optical image stabilization with 2x optical zoom. The main sensor is a wide-angle camera with a larger pixel size from last year – 1.4μm – and thanks to the Neural Engine, it comes with new capabilities like advanced depth segmentation, Smart HDR creating photos with high dynamic range and great image detail, advanced bokeh quality in Portrait mode photos and dynamic depth of field that is user adjustable in the Photos app.
Both the iPhone Xs and Xs Max will ship with the latest iOS 12 update, which feature new functions such as Siri Shortcuts as well as better memory management.
For the first time ever, the iPhone Xs will have dual-SIM models, but as of press time it is only going to be rolled out to China. other markets will have to use eSims for dual SIM capabilities.
The price for the Xs and Xs Max are as follow:
