For health tracking, Apple has updated the Apple Watch Series 4 with new features. This includes a new accelerometer and gyroscope, which are able to detect hard falls, and an electrical heart rate sensor that can take an electrocardiogram (ECG) using the new ECG app, which has been granted a De Novo classification by the FDA. The ECG can help detect irregular heartbeat, which data can then be shared with doctors for further treatments.
“We’re thrilled Apple Watch has become an essential part of people’s lives,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer. “The completely redesigned Apple Watch Series 4 continues to be an indispensable communication and fitness companion, and now with the addition of groundbreaking features, like fall detection and the first-ever ECG app offered directly to consumers, it also becomes an intelligent guardian for your health.”
Other improve features includes louder speakers for Siri and voice calls, a new digital crown with haptic feedback, and a new 64bit processor for better processing and battery life. Speaking of which, Apple promises up to 18 hours of battery life on a single battery charge.
The new Apple Watch Series 4 comes in 40mm and 44mm case sizes, and price ranges from USD399 (~RM1,652) all the way to USD1,499 (~RM6,206) for the Hermes edition.
