If you wanted to get thoroughly confused, let’s talk about Xiaomi’s Redmi devices. They launched the Redmi K30 in December 2019, which was later re-skinned and released as the POCO X2 in India. Now, they’ve released the Redmi K30 Pro, which utterly obliterates the Redmi K30 and POCO X2.

The Redmi K30 Pro lineup consists of two devices: The Redmi K30 Pro and Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition. They’re pretty similar, with the exception of their camera setups. Both the K30 Pro and K30 Zoom Edition come with a 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a max brightness level of 1200 nits for HDR10+ content. However, we’re not sure if the K30 Pro lineup will have the same 120Hz refresh rate as the predecessor, the K30.

For the internals, the K30 Pro lineup is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, with UFS 3.1-based internal storage and LPDD5 RAM. The storage and RAM variants range from 6GB/128GB to 8GB/258GB. It also has a headphone jack, in-display fingerprint sensor, 5G support and Wi-Fi 6. Overall, the K30 Pro looks to have everything you need out of a smartphone so far. These are some flagship level specs, and for the price, they’re looking to be quite the bargain too.

As for the cameras, on the front there’s a 20MP selfie camera, which I have grown to appreciate. A full screen is actually pretty nice. The rear camera setups is where the K30 Pro and K30 Pro Zoom Edition have some differences.

The Redmi K30 Pro comes with a 64MP Sony IMX686 sensor, a 13MP ultra-wide, 5MP macro camera and 2MP depth sensor. This goes against previous rumours which indicated a dual 64MP setup at the very least, but hey, these look okay too.

The K30 Pro Zoom Edition on the other hand has some tweaks. The 5MP macro camera is replaced with an 8MP telephoto camera, capable of a 30x zoom. So that’s the only really major differentiating factor, which I’m willing to sacrifice considering the base K30 Pro comes with almost everything anyway.

In terms of battery, both are equipped with a 4700mAh battery, capable of a 33W fast charge. They claim the K30 Pro devices can be charged from 0-100 within an hour. But we’ll have to see about that.

And now finally, we’re on to what really matters: how much it costs.

The K30 Pro comes in three configurations:

  • 6GB/128GB for CNY 2999 (~RM 1,880)
  • 8GB/128GB for CNY 3399 (~RM 2,100)
  • 8GB/256GB for CNY 3699 (~RM 2,300)

The K30 Pro Zoom Edition comes in two configurations:

  • 8GB/128GB for CNY 3799 (RM 2,380)
  • 8GB/256GB for CNY 3999 (~RM 2,500).

Keep in mind, the device has launched in China only for now, with no word on Malaysian availability yet. But, I’m pretty sure they’re going to want to bring this device globally, so it’s only a matter of time.

I’m sure the naming conventions will also be as confusing as it has been the past few devices. Remember the whole Redmi K20 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro debacle? Yeah, they were the same device, but just confused so many people.
