Window 10 event highlights

HoloLens surprises many.

Microsoft held an event in the wee hours of this morning, showcasing the new Windows 10 and teasing the HoloLens.

Here’s the low down of some of the things announced:

Windows 10 to support a broad range of device
In conjunction, Microsoft intends to expand range of devices. Hints of IoT devices?
New Continuum feature on Windows 10 will adjust things depending on what device you are using
Three pillars mentioned: mobility, privacy and natural interactions
Users can make a free upgrade to Windows 10 for the first year of its launch
- Applies to all devices running Windows 8.1, including phones
All users still running on Windows 7 can get a free upgrade to Windows 10
We’ve heard of SaaS, but Microsoft says they want to make “Windows as a service.” Their goal is to make Windows 10 the most attractive development platform ever
Window as a service is great for consumers, developers and for the security of enterprise users
The Start Menu is back on Windows 10, but now with Live Tiles
The AI assistant, Cortana, is coming to Windows 10 on PC
Windows 10 will run on Lumia smartphones and Surface tablets too
Project Spartan for new browser.
Cortana integration is planned
Xbox App will be on Windows devices
o Gamers can stream Xbox games to Windows PC or tablet
Surface Hub, 84-inch 4K display for the workplace, is announced. Comes with “multi-pen”
Windows Holographic and the HoloLens announced.
o HoloStudio can be used to make holograms
o Holograms can be programmed while using the HoloLens, adds an immersive experience
