Vivo Nex 3 Has 5G And 6.89″ ‘Waterfall’ Display; Is This What Future Smartphones Will Look Like?

Vivo has officially announced their first “Waterfall FullView” OLED display on the Nex 3, which basically means the display spills over the sides of the Nex 3, giving what Vivo claims, the device a screen-to-body ratio of 99.6%. This is basically the next evolution of curved displays, until we’re eventually just using on huge display with a camera module attached on the back. Well, that’s what I think anyway.

With the extreme curvature of the 6.89″ 1080p display, there’s no room for buttons on the side of the phone. To counteract this, Vivo have added virtual buttons called  ‘Touch Sense’ that work with a haptic feedback system. That’s pretty cool? I guess? But I don’t know how much I trust a display only buttons. Physical buttons still have their uses, and with none on this phone, could we expect more phones and manufacturers to adopt this form?

But anyway, what else does the phone have to offer you ask? Well it has Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 Plus processor with a vapor chamber cooling system, a 4500mAh battery, and it has Super FlashCahrge 44W fast charging. And that’s some pretty fast charging, if you didn’t know. There’s also going to be a 5G option, but let’s stick to when the 4G comes out first, before even thinking about that.

For the camera’s, the Nex 3 comes with a circular triple-cam setup, that Vivo calls the Lunar Ring. There’s a 64MP primary camera, a 13MP ultrawide, and a 13MP telephoto lens, and on the front there’s a 16MP pop up camera.

All of this makes for a somewhat exciting potential look at the future. Maybe smartphones will adopt the form factor, and maybe not. We’ll have to see how the industry reacts to the device. No details on the pricing, or the availability of the phone, but we’ll keep you updated as more information becomes available.
